National Development Planning & Research Department
The main mandate of the National Development Planning and Research department is to coordinate the preparation and implementation of the National Development Agenda for accelerated socio-economic transformation.
It is composed of two Directorates, i.e.,
- National Planning Directorate General
- National Research Directorate General
The 2 directorates have the following main functions;
National Planning Directorate General
The main objective of the directorate is to coordinate the elaboration and implementation of policies, strategies and plans that fast-track delivery of the country’s socio-economic transformation agenda.
Specific functions for the directorate include;
- Coordinating the preparation & implementation of the national long and medium term development agendas, i.e., the Vision 2050 and the National Strategy for Transformation.
- Supporting sectors Ministries and Local Governments to develop medium term strategies (Sector Strategic Plans and District Development Strategies/City Development Strategies) for the implementation of the National Development Agenda.
- Ensuring domestication, localization and alignment of global, continental and regional development agendas (such as the Sustainable Development Goals, AU Agenda 2063 and EAC Vision 2050) with the national plans and investments.
- Coordinating the preparation and quality assurance of annual action plans, Imihigo and other relevant national plans working with different stakeholders.
- Coordinating the preparation of Backward and Forward-Looking Joint Sector Reviews.
- Producing management briefs on policies developed by different sectors to ensure their alignment to the national development agenda and available resources.
- Developing national planning capacities in central and local government institutions.
